The sinus lift procedure is relatively complex and presents a considerable challenge for many clinicians. When the residual ridge height is below 4 millimeters beneath the sinus floor, a sinus lift becomes necessary, typically using a lateral window approach. However, this approach has its drawbacks, being more invasive and carrying complications such as sinus membrane tearing and infections.
Conversely, if the residual ridge height is above 4 millimeters below the sinus floor, a crestal approach can be employed for the sinus lift. This method is less invasive, resulting in fewer infections and complications. Nevertheless, clinicians can’t guarantee that the sinus membrane won’t tear during the procedure, potentially necessitating a pause in the procedure and a wait of several months before a repeat operation.
